5 Olympic Athletes We Love on Twitter

Posted by Allison Gair on Feb 7, 2014 4:40:46 AM

Every year on our swim team, we had to write down our goal for the year. When I was 14, I said I wanted to qualify for the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the 100-meter breaststroke. To say I had big dreams as a kid is an understatement. Needless to say, I did not win the gold, nor was I even close to it. This is the exact reason why I love the Olympics. Kids are able to accomplish their childhood dreams. They are just regular people like you and me. Except they’re like SUPER good at sports. And they shoot to stardom because they quickly capture America’s heart. And here we all are, sitting on our couches cheering on these kids as if we grew up with them.

Yes, you’ve read the articles about the athletes to watch out for on their road to the gold. This one is a little bit different. Rather than just following the athletes on your television, make sure you follow them on Twitter as well. It’s a great way to get an inside look into the lives of Olympic athletes.

Lolo Jones @lolojones

Not only is Lolo a Hurdler for the summer Olympics, but she is also competing on the bobsled team during the winter Olympics. With over 380,000 followers, she sure is a beloved athlete. She has more than 10.6K tweets, so we can almost guarantee that she will be live tweeting her time in Sochi.

Shaun White @shaun_white

Shaun White is probably the most well-known winter Olympics athlete and it shows since he has over 1.27 million followers on Twitter. There is no doubt in my mind that he will be updating America on the winter games via Twitter.

Lindsey Vonn @lindseyvonn

Even though Lindsey is not competing in the games this year, she is still in Sochi for the two-week event. After pulling out of her Olympic events due to injury, she joined the NBC corresponding team.

Gracie Gold @GracieEGold

America has their eyes on Gracie to bring home the gold (or at least medal) in figure skating. Not only will we be watching her twirl her way onto the podium, but we’ll also be hoping she keeps us updated on all her Sochi adventures.

Bobby Brown @Bobby_Brown1

No, not that Bobby Brown. This Bobby is a skier on USA team. With just under 40,000 Twitter followers, he may not be the most popular Olympic athlete on Twitter, but he sure is the cutest!
