Austin City Limits is one of the top music festivals in the country and is always full of amazing artists, bands and activities. The festival takes place on Zilker Park, a 46-acre green space in downtown Austin. With music and shows beginning from 11:00 am and going all day and into the night, Austin City Limits is sure to keep the 75,000 audience members entertained all day long. Austin City Limits (ACL for short) isn’t just a music festival it also features lots of local cuisine, an artisan market full of trinkets and many miscellaneous activities. This annual three-day music festival began in 2002 and has become a facet in Austin’s music scene ever since. ACL brings hundreds of artists and bands of varying music genres together for one weekend to play on eight different stages all day long. ACL’s 2013 festival is breaking the mold by offering the festival on two separate weekends, October 4-6 and then again on October 11-13. The line up for this years festival features great performers like Kings of Leon, Muse, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Lionel Richie, Phoenix, Eric Church, Passion Pit and many more incredible acts.
While ACL the music festival is a well-known music and arts festival, what many don’t know is that the festival was inspired by a local PBS program. Austin City Limits began as a TV show on PBS’s member station KLRU to feature Austin’s music scene, which consisted of western swing, Texas blues, Tejano music, country and rock n’ roll. Recorded in Studio 6A in Communications Building B on the University of Texas at Austin’s campus, ACL catapulted Austin into being recognized as the live music capital of the world. As the show became more popular it went on to feature more national and international artists and music styles like jazz, alternative rock and folk music. The show has featured many amazing bands like The Allman Brothers Band, Jimmy Buffett, The Killers and Dave Matthews Band to name a few. Austin City Limits has been such an iconic program that in 2010 the show and the original studio were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame and ACL is now officially the longest running music show in the history of American television.
Austin City Limits is not just a concert it is an experience that many die hard concert goers and casual music lovers alike would enjoy.
