The 3 Best University Instagram Accounts

Social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter have proven to be an incredible force when it comes to university recruiting, but these outlets are beginning to become overshadowed by the image based app Instagram. Instagram is a wildly popular photo-sharing app that utilizes hashtags in order to connect people with similar images. Instagram is becoming a huge recruiting factor for many universities and here at VPM we’ve looked through hundreds of college’s Instagram accounts and have found the 3 best college Instagram accounts in the nation.

University of Kentucky, who also has a fantastic Twitter and Facebook account, has a very successful Instagram account. The University of Kentucky’s Instagram account, whose username is universityofky, has lots of pictures of students and student life on campus. The account promotes campus events like concerts and activities, but the most fun pictures are showcased through the university’s participation in the ever so popular ‘throwback Thursday’. Each Thursday the university posts old school pictures of students from years past hanging out on campus, in residence halls or even in class. The University of Kentucky also has a separate Instagram account solely for recruiting, which is called seeblue, on this account the pictures are focused on orientation sessions and feature the hashtag campaign #seeblue, which is synonymous with the university’s admissions and recruiting. The University of Florida, like the University of Kentucky, also proves to have a stellar Instagram account. Like Kentucky, Florida has lots of pictures that promote campus events and participate in ‘throwback Thursday’. One thing that the University of Florida does that many other universities are failing to do is they are utilizing the new video feature on Instagram. Another strength on Florida’s Instagram account is their behind the scenes feel of their pictures, they have posted many pictures that make the viewer feel like they are right in the action of events like graduation and football games. Florida used the hashtag #ufgrad during graduation in order for families to see graduation pictures and for students to connect with each other and see graduation pictures. Syracuse University also has a great Instagram account and can be found on Instagram with the username syracuseu. Syracuse participates in ‘throwback Thursday’ like the other two accounts, but it’s pictures are more than just pictures of old students, but feature landmarks on campus and historical events in campus buildings. It is no question as to whether Syracuse’s campus is gorgeous and it’s Instagram account showcases just how stunning the campus and the nature surrounding it is. Their account also shows tons of pictures of its mascot and how he has evolved over the years. Syracuse used the hashtag #cusetoatl for the NCAA basketball finals last spring to help fans connect and showcase their pictures from the game. Check out SU on Instagram here: SyracuseU on Instagram

These university Instagram accounts prove that recruiting is more than just brochures full of facts, but that it is all about creating a vibe and a culture that prospective students can see themselves in. The use of Instagram videos, ‘throwback Thursday’ pictures and interactive hashtag campaigns make these three college’s Instagram’s the best in the nation.
