Tomorrow is National Waffle Iron Day and, although not a widely recognized holiday, the VPM team and I will take basically any excuse to consume food... so we moseyed on over to celebrate at the local Waffle House.
We were, of course, welcomed with their typical greeting, “Welcome to Waffle House!” After sitting for less than a minute, we all, not surprisingly, knew what we wanted to order. Fun fact: none of us actually ordered waffles. Aside, no matter what you order at Waffle House - you are going to receive something delicious. (I’ve also heard it tastes even better from the hours of 12-6 a.m.)
When I went to tweet about what was happening, I realized just how phenomenal Waffle House is on Twitter. I went through pages of their tweets, laughing out loud to myself in the office. Here are just some of the recents:
As you can notice, @Wafflehouse not only replies to their followers, but also engages in some bada$$ social listening. Most of the people that they reply to don’t even actually tag the Waffle House twitter. They reply & RT to people who simply say anything about waffles, breakfast, waffle house, etc. This is a terrific social media practice, that all businesses should take note of. Social listening like this is a creative way to join in on conversations and promote your brand. So, I say, to thou House o’ Waffles, you’re doing it right!
Now.. since the Waffle House filled our bellies so full and happily, I want to give one piece of advice to the WAHO. I noticed in the restaurant there was no signage directing their patrons to follow them on twitter or check out their website. Their Twitter presence is as fluffy as their waffles, and I think every one in the digital world would thoroughly enjoy it, if only they knew! I suggest that WAHO start encouraging visitors to follow them by displaying their Twitter Handle on their menus, to-go cups and such. This will up their follower rate and make their Twitter feed that much more entertaining.
Aside, the VPM team had awesome food and great service at Waffle House, which made for a perfect National Waffle Iron Day celebration!
Now go forth my friends and eat your waffles. As always, thanks for reading!
