Why Your University Should Offer Entrepreneurship Programs

Posted by Nikki Butler on Sep 19, 2017 12:00:00 AM

When people think of "entrepreneurship" they only associate it with running your own business, but entrepreneurship is much more than just creating and owning a business.  Entrepreneurship is described as the "capacity and willingness to develop, organize and manage a business venture along with any of its risks in order to make a profit." Programs dedicated to entrepreneurship in universities are growing and attracting invaluable students every day. In fact, the first course designed for entrepreneurship students alone was founded in 1927. Since then entrepreneurship has flourished to be a top program in many business schools, but not all offer this program. If your university does not have a program just for entrepreneurship, here are some reasons you should get on board.

Posted by Caroline Daley on Sep 8, 2017 9:00:00 AM

Fall is here, and if you're from the south (or anywhere that even remotely follows college sports), you know what that means: football season. Fall means football, and football means tailgating. Tailgating is a fun way to celebrate school spirit and a great excuse to eat and drink with friends and family. Football season also presents the perfect opportunity to connect with alumni by hosting an alumni tailgate. Hosting an event such as this allows the university to show gratitude and appreciation for its alumni while providing alumni the chance to experience the excitement of football season at their beloved alma mater all over again.

How to Keep your Students your Number One Fans

Posted by Jasmine Lee on Sep 6, 2017 1:21:53 PM

In the world of higher education, it can be difficult, at times, to keep your students fully engaged and on the right track to obtaining their degree. As a university, you want nothing but success and excitement for the future from your students during their time at your institution. According to the New York Times, only 19% of students at public universities graduate in four years or less and 36% at more selective, private universities. Making Your Dean More Approachable through Social Media

Posted by Catherine Andrews on Aug 31, 2017 9:21:14 AM
Even though the Dean may be one person, they act in numerous roles on a daily basis, which causes different groups of people to perceive the Dean very differently from one another.  One day they may be meeting with the student council discussing goals for the student body, the next they may be speaking to a group of alumni across the country all while maintaining a strong and respected reputation of the college.

To students and prospective students, the Dean is intimidating, to parents, the Dean is the face of the college and to alumni, the Dean is influential.  Speaking to reputation, as the Dean of a college, the Dean must be able to connect with all of these people and gain their trust and understanding of his or her goals for the college.

But how can the Dean build a bridge and connect with each of these very influential and different groups of people? Below you'll find several specific social media platforms to assist you in making your dean more approachable.

Top 3 Reasons to Outsource Your Higher Ed Marketing

Posted by Don Crow on Aug 29, 2017 9:00:00 AM

Casual observers of Verge Pipe Media know we are in the business of providing outsourced marketing to clients in Higher Education, Technology and Healthcare. If however, you're arriving at this article with less than a clue who VPM is or what we do, this is your disclaimer that the following article, while objectively outlined, may seem partial to the idea of outsourcing your higher ed marketing.

Outsourcing is one of those words long overdue for a suitable replacement. During political cycles, which increasingly seem to go on longer and longer, it's a dirty word used to strike fear in the hearts of voters. In corporate board rooms it's a term with few equals whenever cost savings is on the agenda.

What's the Obsession with Unboxing Videos?

Posted by Lindsey Barnes on Jul 27, 2017 9:00:00 AM

The obsession with ordering subscription boxes has been proven to be more than just a fad. But another obsession related to these subscription boxes has shown up on YouTube in the past few years and that is the unboxing of subscription boxes on camera. These types of videos are typically posted by those who have successful YouTube channels with a large following. Unboxing videos are also not just limited to the unboxing of subscription boxes, but also includes almost anything that comes in a box. Why Your Business NEEDS to be on Facebook

Posted by Nikki Butler on Jul 25, 2017 9:00:00 AM

Finding the best platform to market your business on can be overwhelming with the vast selection of always expanding social media platforms available, but it is a proven fact that business owners who use social networking are on top. Especially those businesses who use Facebook and use it well. Facebook influences our daily lives. Whether it be for personal or for business purposes, it's always prominent, it promotes results, and the possibilities to generate leads are endless. If you don't want to take my word for it, here are just a few reasons why your business NEEDS to be on Facebook.

1. Market access.
Facebook grants you access to the largest social media market available.

  • Over 2 billion monthly active users and growing.
  • 1.15 billion mobile users daily who on average spend a total of 55 minutes on Facebook.
  • Facebook is by far the most popular networking site with YouTube coming in at second place.
  • Facebook did a survey of adults in the US and found that people who use Facebook more than five times a day are more likely to be brand loyal.

2. Results. Facebook produces positive results by putting your business in front of your clients and customers every single day.

  • You can increase web traffic through ads and by regularly publishing engaging content.
  • By setting up your business as a local business you can collect testimonials and reviews and embed them onto your business web page.
  • You can manage your reputation by seeing what your customers or clients are saying about your business. It is easier to raise brand awareness and promote positive word of mouth when you know what is being said.
  • Setting up your business page and engaging customers cost absolutely nothing and advertising is affordable.
  • You can also use Facebook as a customer support/technical outlet, which will make your customers happy since it is more efficent and convenient for them. Also you can respond quickly to their questions and complaints.

3. Facebook Insights. Insights is a powerful tool that helps  you track page performance and user interaction. It will break  down each of the following categories:

  • Demographics (Buyer Persona)
  • Page likes
  • Reach
  • Visits
  • Posts

4. SEO. Optimizing your business page for SEO (Search Engine Optimization) will help you reach even more potential clients.

  • Access to a larger audience sharing your content
  • More exposure = more people clicking on links.
  • High CTR translates into increased traffic.
  • Facebook can analyze all the information that millions of users enter into their profiles. You can pay to use this information    to help reach out to potential customers by knowing who your current audience is and target similar buyer personas.
  • Google may be looking at social media as a sign of a  particular article's relevance and trustworthiness.
