The Hype Behind Pokemon Go

Posted by K'yani Gross on Jul 14, 2016 8:00:00 AM

If you are a millennial, you were probably exposed to Pokemon! Whether it was the cards, the video games, and the amazingly produced cartoon. Who didn't want to be Ash Ketchum at some point during their childhood? Probably someone who lacked a sense of adventure (that's not us, of course.) Nintendo has been cranking out various versions of the Pokemon video games for a long time now. Who would've thought that you would be able to catch these lovable creatures in real locations?! Of course we gotta catch'em all.

What is Pokemon Go?

Pokemon Go is an augmented reality game that you can download on your phone. First, let me explain what augmented reality is so that you can fully grasp this amazing concept! Augmented reality is a live, direct or indirect, real-world enviroment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics, or GPS data. In layman's terms, you are able to discover Pokemon on your phone by traveling to real locations via the GPS data the gaming company collected.

How to be like Ash

So, how exactly do you become the very best like no one ever was? Well, you gotta Ketchum all (eh?! eh?!) The amount of older people playing this game is mind blowing. I guess it's never too late to the best. In this game, you can create your own avatar! Unlike the traditional games, you are able to change your avi's hair color and skin color. By the way, you have to have a gmail account to get started! The objective is to catch all the Pokemon there is. How do you do that? Well, the battling strategy is non-existent which makes it a bit easier to achieve your goal. All you have to do is swipe your pokeball towards the pokemon until you capture it.

Do not worry about running out of pokeballs. You are able to acquire more pokeballs by going to pokestops. Pokestops are usually churches, gas stations, and other buildings. You can battle at the gyms! No, they did not take those away from us. The battling that takes place at the gym is exactly like the other Pokemon games.

Team Verge Pipe's Opinion!

Stone, one of our very own Pokemon trainers, believes the game is great to play in his free time. He says that playing this game has increased how much he exercises. He does want the game to add more of the traditinal features such as: the ability to trade and being able to battle with your friends. Crystal, another member of Team Verge Pipe, enjoys playing Pokemon Go. In fact, she loves it so much that she went out at 2am searching for Pokemon (she's basically asking for an encounter with Team Rocket.) Though she loves the game, she does not believe that the game's popularity will last long for her.

Trevor, a future pokemaster, loves the game because of the adventurous-feel it gives him. He is dedicated to being better than Ash and I definetely see the potential! He is very knowledable about Pokemon (Professor Oak vibes.) However, Trevor has competition. His name is Chad (an up and coming pokemaster) and he is addicted to the game. He spends most of his free time playing and even the times he should be doing other productive things, what's more productive than catching Pokemon? He loves the communal aspect of the game. He has talked to people that he never would have (can cause him to have a Brock personality).

It's likely that if you are checking out this article then you are already playing the game. If not, do not forget to check it out and thank us later. Pokemon is forever and so is the child in all of us. Team Verge Pipe blasting off again!
