Using Emotional Appeal in Your Marketing Strategy

Posted by Kayla Jolly on Nov 3, 2016 9:03:00 AM

There are two ways to persuade an audience within advertising: rationally or emotionally.

On average, a person is exposed to around 5,000 advertisements per day. However, not many of these make the final cut with making an impression in someone’s memory.

More often than not, the memorable advertisements are those that appeal to emotion. Emotions are known to have a lasting impression during the decision making process. Science has proven that people feel first and think second.

Due to the fact that most decisions are fueled by emotions, not logical thoughts, it’s important to take advantage of this knowledge. Businesses that take this into consideration during their advertisements are the ones that stay ahead of the game.

Let’s take notes from successful Fortune 500 companies such as Coca-Cola, Apple and even Walmart. These companies have produced emotional campaigns that turned out to be some of the most inspiring and successful advertisements of all time.

To truly convince your audience, sell a product or even build your company’s reputation, it’s important to acknowledge these advances and run with it. Here are some simple ways to help your businesses marketing strategy stand out:

Show Personal Values

Every person has their own unique values, but showing some of these in your advertisements will be sure to catch the eye. For example, family is highly valued amongst most people. Focusing on different emotional family situations can strike a nerve in someone’s memory within advertising.

Encourage People to Be Themselves

The movements to embrace who you are, flaws and all, have increased drastically over years. Being true to who you are has never been more important than in this day and age. When an advertisement encourages you to love who you are, it helps make a lasting impression on someone in a positive light.

Inspire Your Audience

Inspire your audience to know they can do anything that they set their minds to… Especially with what you’re trying to advertise. For example, people who have been beaten down and have risen back up have been used as effective examples in many advertisements. Push people to know that they can do whatever they set their minds to.

It is vital to explain your product, business and purpose in advertisement. However, it’s also vital to show how what you’re advertising can help them personally and emotionally. Emotional appeal has been deemed one of the most successful strategies that your brain processes in marketing.
